President’s Welcome – Lion President Diane Holt

This is the complete text for Lion President Diane’s address to the club, June 24, 2019.

It’s a GREAT day to be a Lion! Don’t you agree? I am both honored and excited to be your Club President – leading the College Station Noon Lions Club into a new Lion’s year.

And what an amazing club we are! Not only are we the largest club in our District (over 210 members strong), but also the club that steps up to provide service- not only in our own community, but we also provided monetary support to LaGrange & Columbus after Hurricane Harvey, and most recently in Franklin.  The saying, “Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion,” still rings true. The tremendous growth of our membership will allow more of us to do more service, for more people.

My Goals for Our Club Include:

  1. Seek out and identify future potential leaders in our club. Do not hesitate to let it be known that you are interested in participating in the leadership of this club.  New leaders bring in new ideas and new energy. Please don’t wait to be asked.
  2. Our Club membership growth is impressive. Many of you have sponsored a new Lion this year. Thank you!  But more than growth, I am concerned about retention of our members. We need to follow up with our absentee members. For you sponsors- if you no longer see your new Lion attending our meetings, or notice that someone has not been to Lions in a while, check up on them, or let our Membership Chair know so we can help.
  3. We are a Service Organization- the largest in the world, almost 1.5 million Lions strong. I charge every member of our club to participate in one or more service projects, and serve on at least one or two committees.  Our club offers many opportunities for service. Find ones that appeal to you and get involved. Perhaps you might even suggest one we have not thought of!
  4. Last, but not less in importance: We have a large club, ready to serve, but we also must keep this club financially solvent. Right now, we have members who are not current on their Dues. Remember, your dues allow us to provide funds so we can continue to support our programs, projects and service opportunities. If you fall behind on your dues, be prepared to get a call from your Sponsor, or ME!
